Wimbledon School of English

Wimbledon School of English was founded in 1964 and is one of the oldest English schools in Great Britain. It was founded by Mrs. Marjorie Housden in Wimbledon Village and started with English teaching to local, living and working students from abroad.

The school was so popular by the middle of the 1970s that we had to consider larger facilities. We walked down the hill at 41 Worple Road to our current address.

As the years progressed and the school increased, we extended into the nearby house. The expansion was also added and we had 21 permanent classrooms spread over three floors by 2019 and four in a separate building.

The School was first approved by the British Council in 1983 and was turned into a Cambridge Reviewing Centre. In 2008, we became a study centre for IELTS and in 2010, the testing center was called The London Test Centre. The center offers a variety of paper and electronic tests, amongst others Mit, IELTS, PTE, ACCA, TEA, OET & TOEFL.

Over the past 55 years, WSE has developed a reputation as one of the best schools in the UK. It is still owned by the Housden family, who remain dedicated to ensuring that Wimbledon School of English is a centre for academic excellence and quality service provision.
