Saint Louis University or SLU was founded in 1818, Saint Louis University is one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious Catholic universities. SLU, which also has a campus in Madrid, Spain, is recognized for world-class academics, life-changing research, compassionate health care, and a strong commitment to faith and service.

Saint Louis’s history of educational excellence goes back more than 200 years. As the first university in the American West, we are proud of our home in St. Louis and of our Catholic, Jesuit mission. SLU was the nation’s first federally certified flight school, established the first law and medical schools in the American West and conducted the first human heart transplant in Missouri.

Guided by our enduring Jesuit mission, we offer our nearly 13,000 students a highly rigorous and deeply transformative education that helps them develop into bold, confident leaders. Rated among the nation’s top research universities, SLU boasts 14 graduate and undergraduate programs ranked among the top 50 in the country by U.S. News & World Report.

Academically, ethics, spirituality and compassion take center stage, while outside the classroom, members of the SLU community provide more than 1.6 million service hours each year — just one reason we’re among the nation’s top colleges for making an impact. In fact, more than 120 of SLU’s courses integrate community engagement into academics. SLU has 80+ graduate disciplines — including accelerated and dual degree options to save you time and money while planning for the next step in your career. SLU helps students land the internships and research opportunities them need to graduate career-ready.

St. Louis is home to nine Fortune 500 companies, including Bayer, Express Scripts, Emerson Electric and Edward Jones. It’s also a hotbed of innovation and entrepreneurship, with Popular Mechanics ranking St. Louis the No. 1 start-up city in America. No wonder there’s a strong SLU alumni network of more than 51,000 in St. Louis. SLU assist students in reaching their career goals, starting from day one. Among many other locations, recent Saint Louis University graduates are employed* at: American Red Cross, Bayer, Anheuser-Busch InBev, AT&T, Boeing, CitiGroup, FAA, IBM Global Services, Mastercard, MilliporeSigma, NASA, Nestlé Purina, PricewaterhouseCoopers, St. Louis Cardinals, United Airlines, Wells Fargo and Co., World Wide Technology — according to data collected by SLU Career Services.

Known as one of America’s best sports cities, St. Louis is home to two professional teams: the Cardinals (baseball) and the Blues (hockey), whose fans fill the vibrant Downtown area on game days. A Major League Soccer expansion team is expected in 2022.  SLU also has 16 Division I NCAA sports teams, including men’s and women’s basketball and soccer.
