The University of Vermont (UVM) was chartered since 1791. The University of Vermont has worked to move humankind forward. Established as the fifth college in New England (after Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth and Brown). Throughout its history, the University of Vermont has demonstrated its commitment to fairness and equality. It was the first American college or university with a charter plainly declaring that the “rules, regulations, and by-laws shall not tend to give preference to any religious sect or denomination whatsoever.” Today, the university blends the traditions of both a private and public university, drawing 6.2% (as of 2019) of its total operating budget from the state of Vermont.

UVM offer more than 100+ majors in 7 undergraduate schools and colleges. With 54 master’s degree programs, 26 doctoral programs and 35 accelerated master’s programs. Over 10,000 students enrolled at UVM. 92% of seniors report being engaged in research, an internship or other experience-based learning/high impact practice during their time at UVM. They also have the internship opportunities of 7,000+ internships listed by the Career Center. Moreover, 98% of classes are taught by faculty (only 2% of classes are taught by graduate assistants).

The UVM’s 460-acre campus. On-campus students live across four campuses in nine residential complexes with access to over a dozen dining facilities. Offering over 210+ student clubs and organizations, including a nationally recognized debate team and a student-run newspaper, radio station, TV station, rescue squad, legal services and many more academic, artistic, musical, cultural, ethnic, political, and religious clubs. And 60 club sports, some engaged in intercollegiate competition, and around 20 intramural teams.
