University of Dayton

University of Dayton history is one of perseverance, tenacity, ingenuity and transformation. The school began with an act of faith more than 170 years ago. Starting with only 14 students, one building and one farm, the University of Dayton rose from its humble beginnings to become an internationally recognized university. Founded in 1850, the University of Dayton is committed to the common good. As a Catholic, Marianist university, we value building community and invite people of diverse talents and backgrounds to join us in creating a better world.

At UD, students learn by doing — studying other cultures by experiencing them, conducting research to explore questions and taking on real-world challenges. Our spirit ignites a boundless curiosity that drives us to bravely face the unknown, engage in exploration and make new discoveries. Here, we examine the relationship between faith and reason. We integrate knowledge across disciplines, and we educate for service, justice and peace.

Across all of our more than 80 undergraduate and 50 graduate and doctoral programs, our academics are challenging. Not just for the sake of it, but because there are real challenges in the world that need to be met. That way, when graduation arrives, you won’t be entering the real world for the first time. Student are already be part of it, for career and life. Student-to-faculty ratio 14:1.

Whether through research, service-learning, education abroad, internships or co-ops. And when graduation arrives, students are already part of the real world. They are fully prepared for their careers – and future lives.
