University of Kansas or KU was founded in 1866, the University of Kansas welcomed the first class of 55 students to an unfinished building on a treeless ridge called Mount Oread. Today, our enrollment sits at 28,500. From that single building, we have grown to five campuses. The University of Kansas is the state’s flagship university and one of just 65 invited members of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU). We consistently earn high rankings for academics and recognition as a premier research university.
5,000 courses. More than 400 degree and certificate programs. And 2,800 faculty members, many of them at the top of their fields. In KU’s dynamic, cross-disciplinary research and learning environment, students exchange ideas, discover new ways of processing the world, and address society’s grand challenges. Students will learn from faculty who are experts in their fields. Attend small, interdisciplinary classes. And study in high-tech collaborative spaces. KU encourages student to take what they learn in the classroom and use it in the real world. An experiential learning certificate on their transcript highlights your experience.
The mission of the University of Kansas is to lift students and society by educating leaders, building healthy communities and making discoveries that change the world. We advance this mission every day across KU’s five campuses, which include the Lawrence Campus, the Edwards Campus, and three KU Medical Center campuses in Kansas City, Salina and Wichita.
KU embrace the role of the university and a premier research institution, serving the state, nation, and world. We celebrate the energy and compassion that infuse the Jayhawk spirit. And we remain true to our historic values: the elevating force of education, the transformative power of research, and the healing power of service. The Jayhawk community extends around the globe, united by more than 150 years of tradition and by our commitment to creating a better world.
