University of Salford

The University of Salford has a long history of working with industry, improving on its traditional strengths of nursing, engineering and sports medicine. It was founded in its original form in 1850 before being awarded full university status in 1967, and there are currently over 20,000 students enrolled across 60 acres of parkland on the banks of the River Irwell.

In the most recent Research Excellence Framework, 50% of Salford’s research was judged to be ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. The areas of Social Work and Policy, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Environment stood out.

A connection with the University of Salford builds a bridge to success. So, if it’s study, research or working with business and industry, we will achieve excellence together.

As a University, we’ve been growing for over a hundred years and achieved success every step of the way.

And as part of this success we’ve developed into a dynamic and cosmopolitan institution with a first-class reputation for real-world teaching and groundbreaking research. What’s more, our historic tradition of innovative thinking and commercial success means we’re widely regarded as one of the UK’s most enterprising universities.

Combine this with our location, record for employability, system of student support and top-rated teaching and you get a very special university.

We’re investing in the future with over £150 million being put in new buildings and campus facilities. A significant investment in IT facilities means wireless connections will be available across much of the university, with improved library computing and broadband internet in all our accommodation.

The University of Salford makes graduate employment one of its top priorities. What sets us apart is our commitment to boosting your job prospects and preparing you for the world of work. We work closely with employers to develop programmes and short courses that will benefit their business and employees.

At Salford we’re driven by research – our work has been recognised as being of national and international importance in governmental assessments. In fact, our performance at the last Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2001) places us in the top third of UK universities for research.
