University of Warwick

University of Warwick

Warwick is a leading university, somewhere forward-looking and ambitious, where the starting point is always ‘anything is possible’.

The establishment of the University of Warwick was given approval by the government in 1961 and received its Royal Charter of Incorporation in 1965. The University initially admitted a small intake of graduate students in 1964 and took its first 450 undergraduates in October 1965. In October 2013, the student population was over 23,000 of which 9,775 are postgraduates. Around a third of the student body comes from overseas and over 120 countries are represented on the campus. The University has 29 academic departments and over 50 research centres and institutes, in four Faculties.

We’re as respected for boundary-breaking research as for teaching and business collaborations – our pursuit of excellence and intellectual curiosity is tireless. We strive to lead rather than follow, and are renowned for our entrepreneurialism and cosmopolitan outlook.

Our Principles set out our expectations of how we behave as a University community, both as individuals and as an institution. We commit to sharing these principles with all new students and staff members when they arrive at Warwick and underpin our desire to give students the best experience possible whilst studying here. They facilitate an environment where the ability to voice ideas is at its core, a place in which staff and students operate with mutual respect, with the confidence that equality of opportunity is accessible to all.

These principles represent our expectations of how we behave as a University Community, both as individuals and as an institution. They also inform our approach to taking appropriate action when these expectations are not met.
