Widener University

Widener University was founded in 1821. The university history as a former military college has given Widener a strong foundation and has created a lasting set of values that are reflected in the university’s mission statement today. As a first-choice university, Widener is a dynamic, inclusive academic community, transforming students into scholars, leaders, and globally engaged citizens.

Widener is known for preparing the next generation of professionals—while informing the future of the professions they go on to lead. The lifelong value of a Widener education is rooted in a commitment to the professional and personal development of each individual student. Widener offers associate, baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral, and law degrees across more than 60 programs—including highly ranked programs in nursing, engineering, social work, and the arts and sciences. Each of the college and schools is a center of excellence and a leader in its own distinct way.

Since then, the institution now known as Widener University has been a prep school, a military academy, and a small college before transforming into the dynamic metropolitan university it is today. Yet throughout its history, Widener University has maintained its commitment to producing leaders in fields ranging from engineering and health care to business and education.

The students are prepared for the future through hands-on internship, co-op, and research experiences. They learn from and collaborate with a faculty of respected leaders and influencers—professors who take a personal and individualized approach to teaching and career guidance. Prepared for success by a university-wide focus on professional leadership development, our graduates enjoy fast starts and often advance to management positions, posting a median post-graduate salary well above the national average.

At Widener, we’re committed to doing our part to safeguard the planet and its resources for future generations. Sustainability is engrained in our campus. Many of our buildings feature environmentally-friendly technology, including Founders Hall, which is certified “green” by the U.S. Green Building Council and holds the prestigious LEED designation. Several buildings have geothermal exchange technology. And our campus is committed to reducing our carbon footprint through our Green Pride recycling program.
