Widener University was founded in 1821. The university history as a former military college has given Widener a strong foundation and has created a lasting set of values that are reflected in the university’s mission statement today. Since then, the institution now known as Widener University has been a prep school, a military academy, and a small college before transforming into the dynamic metropolitan university it is today.
