Synopsis:

The global pandemic of COVID-19 has exposed the human civilizations, economies, businesses and families with their vulnerabilities and insecurities. Monday 24th February 2020, witnessed 3% to 5% fall in the global stock market indices including the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Financial Time Stock Exchange (FTSE) 100. Later, on 8th March, the S&P 500 plummeted by 7% in four minutes leading to the steepest decline after the global financial crisis of 2008.  The global oil price crashed down in mid-February and on 20th April, the oil prices dropped below zero for the first time in history. The sudden decline in the demand for domestic and international travel and absence of production activity, led to significant decline in the oil price.

The global consumers are highly impacted due to COVID-19. Shifting their priorities overnight from luxurious items and mobile gadgets, suddenly, to home essentials and hygiene products including toilet rolls. There is an account of 32% to 80% decline in footfall of consumers going for shopping. Large multinational companies have declared bankruptcies as their sales have hit south in rocket speed. Marketing budgets in more than 65% of organizations have declined now. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) have described this COVID-19 lead economic crisis as the worst since the Great Depression of 1929 as it will knock down $9 trillion (฿ 274 trillion) from the global economy.

In the same bandwagon of the global economy, Thailand is not an exception. The Thai economy is projected to contract at least by 7.3% during 2020, especially as the massive decline in exports and tourism industry. From nearly 4 million tourists in December 2019, Thailand had zero tourists in April 2020, according to the World Bank’s research. It is estimated that 8.4 million Thai workers lost their employment or income so far.

Naturally, the recent public outcry, protests and the political turmoil in Thailand raises several questions on the future of the Thai economy.

This webinar is timely planned as it entails five ways to succeed in business in the new normal, focussing on post COVID-19 strategies.
